Casey's Thoughts

BIO

Casey Steinbacher, Founder of Casey’s Company, is widely recognized as a national expert in urban innovation strategies or as she likes to say…”Teaching the World Why Coolness Matters”….Her company identifies and creates NEXT opportunities for communities and organizations, with a unique emphasis on place based talent recruitment.  She is credited with authoring the strategy that targeted entrepreneurs and millennials as key components for the place based renaissance of downtown Durham, North Carolina that CNN just named the start up capital of the south. She boasts an eclectic list of clients and projects.

Prior to founding her own company, Casey served as President and CEO of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce from 2007 until 2015. Under her direction, the Durham Chamber received national and international acclaim for its leadership in economic and entrepreneurial development, winning the award for the Best Innovative Economic Development Project at the World Chambers Congress in Doha, Qatar, in 2013. Durham experienced over $5 billion in announced new investment that created more than 20,000 jobs during her tenure, including the birth and rapid growth of an entrepreneurial eco-system that is now considered one of the most vibrant in the South.

A 27 year veteran of Chamber and Economic Development work, she also served as President and CEO of Chambers in Pennsylvania and Florida.

She sits on numerous boards but most notably serves on the Community Growth and Investment Foundation, an international foundation created to help Chambers throughout the US and Canada strengthen their expertise and engagement in community and economic development initiatives in their communities.

She is a regular blogger and radio host…. and in her spare time she dances in the street, enjoys tequila tastings, and visits her grandkids who live too far away….and yes, in that order.

ABOUT ME

One of my good friends described me one time, as the “epitome of someone who lives their life out loud”…and I can only hope that is what my children put on the plaque that will someday adorn the urn that holds my ashes. Luckily for me, only one of my 3 daughters is a millennial so I’m pretty confident that they will actually follow the terms and conditions of my will…

Born and raised the first 40 years of my like in Williamsport, PA (Home to the Little League World Series), I never had a choice but to be a sports-aholic. But also being one of seven children to Irish Catholic parents, I am by DNA socially adventurous, entrepreneurial and innovative..all the while feeling guilty about having so much fun at everything I do.

I have lived and worked in three states…Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina (where i currently reside)…working hard in each for the community’s economy and the residents well being. I loved the work and continue it now in a whole different way with my own company…aptly named Casey’s Company.  My clients hire me to help them understand why coolness matters and how to achieve it in a truly authentic way.

I was married to my high school sweetheart for almost 35 years, but am now a widow grateful that my three daughters and their ridiculously good looking husbands have blessed me with six grandchildren to spoil. When I’m not jumping on a plane to visit them, I can be found speaking at some convention that thinks I’m worth the fee,  dancing in the streets of #DURM or sipping Tequila on a rooftop somewhere in the world with friends.
